Counseling
Individual counseling for adults, children, and teenagers.
Counseling is geared to address the imminent issues concerning the adjustment process of Aliyah and facilitates the exploration and resolution of personal problems and concerns, such as:
- cultural shock, adjustment and integration
- identity issues
- life transitions
- parenting
- stress management, and coping skills
- post-aliyah depression
Counseling is a process that usually takes between 6-12 meetings.
In-home counseling
In-home counseling is a powerful and effective way to address family issues and build structure and stability in the home. It focuses on the family's strengths, communication, and the development of effective coping skills. Meeting the family in their natural environment can have a very empowering effect on the family and engage even reluctant members. Youth are sometimes more willing to participate in family counseling when it is conducted in the home. Other benefits of in-home counseling are the convenience of time scheduling and no necessary traveling.
In-home family counseling is usually short term and serves as a powerful tool for establishing and facilitating a trusting therapeutic relationship. We work as a team in:
- Identifying goals and the changes that want to be made
- Learning new skills for problem-solving, decision-making, communicating, managing stress, and build strong relationships.
- Examine thoughts, perceptions, beliefs, and viewpoints that are consistent with accomplishing your goals, as well as those that might be conflicting with your ability to fully adjust
- Taking action to attain your goals, and to enhance well-being and quality of life for yourself and your family
In-home counseling can address the children's particular adjustment issues, the parents', the couple's difficulties as a result of Aliyah, and the interaction amongst family members. This type of counseling can take between 6-12 sessions.
Workshops
Children and teenagers
The workshops consist of 6 weekly sessions and focus on the children/teenagers' own experience of Aliyah or relocation. They provide them with the opportunity to explore their feelings and attitudes regarding their move to Israel as well as strengthen their coping skills and self -esteem.
Parents
Different workshops are developed to deal with issues such as identity and belonging, culture shock, integration, exploring the effects of Aliyah on children, ways to help them cope, possible signs of struggle, and offer tools for making this a positive experience.
Support Groups
Support groups are for people who are looking for a place where they can feel free to talk about their feelings and struggles and not feel alone. Meeting others who are going through similar issues and can understand can be very empowering. Support groups provide a safe platform to share and learn through each other's experiences and can assist in clarifying concerns and expand social networks.
